Rachael grew up in Topsham where spent most time with her family on the river, enjoying evenings and weekends with her grandparents on their boat called Silver Tail. The great childhood memories inspired Rachael to call her podiatry company Silver Tail Foot Care.
When she was 18 years old, Rachael began caring for the locals in the Topsham community, alongside her mum. She enjoyed listening to their life stories and trying to make them comfortable.
Later on, she spent time working in a nursing home, and in 2014 she joined the NHS, where she gained her NVQ3 in Health and Social Care.
In 2017, Rachael learnt the importance of foot health. Wanting to make a difference, she joined the NHS Podiatry team at Torbay, where she trained to become an Assistant Practitioner gaining a Foundation Degree in Heath Care with competencies in Podiatry at South Devon University. Her efforts and dedication led her to become a private Foot Health Practitioner and starting Silver Tail Foot Care plus Assistant Practitioner in Podiatry for the NHS.
In 2019, Rachael completed the bridging modules which allowed her to start working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Podiatry at Plymouth University. In the summer of 2021 she became a qualified HCPC registered Podiatrist.
Wanting to enhance her learning, Rachael continued to work part-time for the NHS throughout her entire training and for a year after she qualified. She left the NHS in 2022 and went to work two days a week for a private clinic in Taunton whilst continuing to build her Silver Tail foot Care business.
Rachaels passion to make a difference in people’s lives and to improve foot health,.

There is a widespread confusion between podiatry and chiropody, or podiatrist and chiropodist. Though there need not be, they mean the same. A chiropodist or podiatrist should be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is a member of the Royal College of Podiatry, or some other professional body such as the British Chiropody & Podiatry Association.
A chiropodist was once described as a foot specialist in the UK and Ireland. The term ‘podiatrist’ originated in America, and is now internationally recognised. In 1993, UK and Ireland acknowledged the widespread use of the term ‘podiatry’ and officially introduced it, the two now being used interchangeably.
Both the podiatrist and chiropodist are protected by law, and both are qualified and insured health care professionals. They are specially trained to diagnose and treat conditions of the feet and lower limbs. This includes preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of a range of conditions, including infections, ulceration, injuries, and foot and nail conditions related to other factors such as diabetes and peripheral arterial disease.
A podiatrist can do the same as a FHP and more. They can enhance a patient's independence and quality of life by keeping them mobile and active, relieving pain and advising them on how to maintain their feet healthy and choose the correct type of shoes. A podiatrist can also provide many treatments including nail surgery, give injection, provide antibiotics, provide musculoskeletal assessments., dermal filler, shockwave, lazer, nail reconstruction and much more.
Foot Health Practitioners (FHP) are insured and qualified professionals with a diploma or Foundation Degree qualification.
A FHP role is to provide people (including people with diabetes) with professional general foot care to help to avoid the development of problems that may have an impact on their health.
They are trained to deliver the correct type of maintenance and care to the feet, dealing with problems such as corns, callus, thickened nails, minor ingrowing toenails and verrucas. They are also trained to recognise conditions that are out of their scope of practice and know how to refer to the correct health care professional.
