What is a verruca/ wart
Warts and verrucas are caused by infection of your skin with the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can spread from person to person by direct skin contact (low risk). They can also spread indirectly, if you touch something, like a floor or surface but its uncommon. You’re more likely to get infected this way if your skin is damaged or wet, so infection is often linked to swimming pools and communal showers. You can also spread the infection from one part of your body to another, if you scratch or touch a wart or verruca.
You’re more likely to develop warts and verrucas if you have a weakened immune system. This might be because you have a medical condition or are taking medicines that suppress your immune system.
You might not like how your warts looks but apart from their appearance, warts and verrucas don’t usually cause any symptoms. Verrucas can become uncomfortable or painful when you put weight on them. They may also bleed. Common warts around your nails can be painful too.
Most warts and verrucas go away by themselves, so it’s often best just to leave them alone, especially in children. But if your wart or verruca is bothering you, there are some things you can try.
Not offered at the clinic .Lazer therapy: The laser is used to directly heat the verruca or the wart and destroy the vascular supply of the verruca/wart. The laser also works to denature the DNA of the virus. This treatment can be painful due to the heat.
Treatments available at the clinic
Verrutop (over 6 years) The manufacturers state the proven efficacy of the treatment to be 90% with a maximum of six treatment sessions performed. It mostly effective with children and new verrucas those vurrucas that are years old I would say more 50% effective in my experience. Verrutop is an in-clinic topical solution providing painless treatment for verrucas and warts. It can be effective in just a few applications. The nitri-zinc complex (Nitric acid, Organic acids and Zn and Cu salts) kills the wart tissue by breaking down its protein structure, leaving intact skin underneath. Verrutop is applied every 2 weeks by the podiatrist. The patient can apply surgical spirt twice a day to help the process.
£60 per treatment
Cryotherapy over 6 years old is the process of freezing your wart using liquid nitrogen every 2 weeks for up to 6 times. It sometimes leads to blistering or scarring of your skin and can be painful.
£60 per treatment
Can do both verrutop and cryotherapy at the same time
SWIFT over 8 years old is microwave therapy delivering high dose of microwaves into the verruca causing water molecules in the tissue to collide, creating heat and energy in the verruca. Often 3+ treatments are needed. It can be painful during and after. Anaesthetic can be used if needed. Treatments monthly for 3-4 months then 4 month break for immune system to kick in 85% effective with 3 treatments
£130 per treatment
£350 package of 3 treatments
Needling (over 18’s) you can’t drive on the day of the procedure Dry needling has been found to be a safe and effective treatment. There is evidence that it works in 80% of cases. It is different to other treatments for verrucas, as it requires only one or two sessions. Verruca needling is performed under local anaesthetic. Injections are given around your ankle or in your foot to numb the skin and deeper nerves around the verruca site. You will be awake during the dry needling but will not be able to see the dry needling or feel any pain.
Once your foot is numb, a sterile, dry needle (a needle without any medication), is inserted into and out of the verruca several times until all of the surface of the verruca has been punctured. This pushes the virus from the outer layer of skin (epidermis) into the deeper dermis layer of skin so that the body’s immune system can come into contact with the virus and destroy it. You have 1 treatment then wait 4 months to allow the immune system to respond.
£220 per treatment
Surgical removal (over 18s) you can’t drive on the day of the procedure. Verruca surgery is a highly effective treatment option for persistent verrucas that haven’t responded to traditional treatments. The surgery procedure involves precise surgical removal of the verruca under local anaesthetic. Depending on its size may require stitches. This procedure will require you to be off your feet with full rest for a week possibly longer after the procedure. The total recovery time is between 4-6 weeks
£350 + if more than one needs removal a quote will be provided.

Curacorn is dermal filler product originate in the UK which was first used with footballers to give longer-term relief from painful lesions. It’s made from highly viscous form of Hyaluronic Acid. This established aesthetic procedure uses specialist dermal filler specifically tailored for the foot. The hyaluronic acid filler provides a cushion inside the skin between the joint and the skin immediately under a painful pressure lesion such as corns and callus. This creates a reduction in pressure over these areas and decreases the production of callus and corns caused by friction. Therefore, Curacorn can be effective with people with diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis from foot ulceration. It’s found success in providing lasting relief, restoring comfort and reduce the need for regular treatments.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body. Once administered into the foot, it provokes the formation of collagen and draws fluid to the area, creating a natural cushion. The Curacorn product uses the highest viscous formation of hyaluronic Acid. Which has been tried and tested as an injectable into the foot and proven not to disperse under the pressure of walking or forces impacted on our feet from footwear. This comfortable natural cushion effect can last up to 18 months before the body will naturally dissolve the product.
Curacorn® works best in areas where there is some laxity of skin around the lesion.
Patient who can benefit from Curacorn include;

The Onyfix nail correction system is a versatile and innovative product that enables completely painless treatment of almost all forms of involuted and ingrown toenails.
Onyfix fixes it to your nail, which is then brought back into its natural shape as it grows. The whole process is pain-free, during application and throughout the entire treatment!

The principle of the Onyfix nail correction system is to bring an involuted or ingrown nail back into a natural shape through normal growth without any tension or pain, following more or less proximal application of the Onyfix nail correction system using a hardened composite. First Rachael will prepare the nail prior to application. The Onyfix composite is then spread on the nail and shaped correctly. After the composite has hardened, the nail correction system fixes the nail in its proximal shape without any tension.
The Onyfix nail correction system ensures that this shape is retained as the nail grows naturally. When the treatment reaches the end of the nail Rachael will remove it a process that is also pain-free. This process can be repeated if required and up to 4 bands can be used.

It can not be used
If a haematoma is present
If exudate is present
If there is an open wound.
Cost (for treatment in your own home)
£25 PER BAND plus your appointment time.
Standard appointment cost 30min appointment plus £25 per band

Toe nail reconstruction is a cosmetic procedure where as a Podiatrist I can create a new non permanent gel nail over your existing nail.
Toe nail reconstruction is suitable for those that have:
thickened nails
damaged nails
fungal nails
split or cracked nail or if your not happy with the appearance of your fingernails or toenails.
The product used is LCN Wilde-Pedique Silver Plus as it is especially designed for toenails due to its high occlusion ability and its flexibility; it contains an anti-fungal agent and is ideal for cosmetically treating fungal, damaged and unsightly nails. Available in 4 colours, to build a very natural looking nail. Your be amazed at how great your nails look.
First of all the original nail needs to be prepared. Rachael will trim and thin down the nail as much as its safe to do so.
The nail is then cleaned ready for application
The first layer applied is a fungal treatment
Then second layer is a bonding agent to help the new nail stick to the original nail and nail plate.
Then multiple layers of the gel is applied to get to a shape and appearance that pleasing to look at. Each layer is cured with a LED light to harden.
The new nail is then filed and trimmed to a suitable thickness. Once your happy with its appearance the final layer is applied to make it strong and last.
You can treat the new nail the same as your original nail it can be cut and filed.
You can paint your new nail with nail varnish and use nail varnish remover but make sure its not one that contains acetone.
It may need reapplying every 4-6 weeks depending on nail growth.
Acetone removes the gel.
I don’t recommend going into a hot tub or swimming for too long as may reduce the products durability.
Costs
£60 plus £5 per toe nail that needs reconstruction.

At your first appointment and with your permission, Rachael will complete an initial assessment. This is to ensure that you will benefit from the safest possible and most useful treatment.
All the recorded information is completely confidential and stored safely following GDPR guidelines. Once the assessment is completed, if you rebook further appointments, it will not be repeated. At your first appointment you will also receive a treatment for your foot problem.
Please sit comfortably in a well-lit room with space around the feet for Rachael to work. Ideally, in a recliner chair, if available, or in a room with enough space for us to prop your foot up on a stool.
A consent form will need to be signed this can be sent out to you prior to your appointment. This will allow us to carry out an assessment and treatment.
Please be prepared for Rachael to take a detailed medical history, including discussing any medications you may currently be taking. This form also can be emailed to you to fill in before the appointment. This ensures the best treatment is being provided and enables us to have a clear understanding of your medical needs.
For this, you might want to prepare a recent prescription list and a list of any herbal medication you may be taking.
Rachael will likely check the blood supply to your feet. This is a quick and pain free test which involves feeling the pulses in your feet, or using an instrument called hand-held Doppler.
Rachael will then check the nerve supply to your feet. Again, this is a quick and pain free test using a monofilament.
A thorough foot examination will then be carried out, and a treatment plan will be created and discussed. If appropriate for your foot problem, I may ask you if we can perform a biomechanical assessment.
This involves checking the movement in your feet and seeing what happens to your feet when you walk. Examples of foot conditions that might benefit from treatment following a biomechanical assessment are: painful flat feet, plantar fasciitis, Morton's neuroma and Achilles tendinitis.
The initial assessment and treatment appointment may take up to an hour.
